Referrals are not necessary to receive treatment from our allied health team, although if you live with a chronic disease or mental illness you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for allied health services that your GP has identified as appropriate for your treatment and health needs. All of Thriving Lives Co. allied health professionals are registered with the Department of Human Services and are able to accept Medicare referrals from your GP.

How do I access Medicare rebated allied health treatment for mental illness?

Individuals living with a mental illness are able to seek a referral to see allied health through their general practitioner, which allows an individual to receive:

Up to ten sessions with an Occupational Therapist or Psychologist per calendar year that are subsidised/rebated by Medicare as part of the Better Access Initiative referral. The Better Access initiative is available to individuals with an assessed mental health condition that significantly interferes with their capacity to function cognitively, emotionally, or socially.
Up to five sessions with an Exercise Physiologist per calendar year that are subsidised/rebated by Medicare as part of a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan referral. The CDM Plan is available to individuals with a diagnosed chronic (or terminal) medical condition.

How do I access Medicare rebated allied health treatment for chronic disease?

Individuals living with a chronic health condition are able to seek a referral to see allied health through their general practitioner, which allows an individual to receive:

Up to five sessions of allied health services per calendar year that are subsidised/rebated by Medicare as part of a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan referral. The CDM Plan is available to individuals with a diagnosed chronic (or terminal) medical condition.
An initial assessment and up to eight group therapy sessions per calendar year that are subsidised/rebated by Medicare for individuals living with Type II Diabetes.
